A fantastic opportunity exists to undertake a formal, structured training programme 4-5 years with the objective of qualifying as an engineer and moving into the role of Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer on completion of the apprenticeship programme. The key objective of an engineer, both trainee and fully qualified, is to minimise downtime and maintain the equipment to the best possible standard.

To complete a programme of training to be conducted by the appropriate engineering training organisation. This will require attendance with training provider on a full time basis for the first year and followed by day and evening classes leading to a recognised qualification.

  • To provide evidence of competence and compliance with the craft apprentice training areas as defined in the national TNA (training needs analysis) document
  • Electrical installation, electrical maintenance, electrical testing and PLC’s
  • To become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of machine tools including, but not restricted to turning and milling, grinding and drilling
  • Carry out planned work including PM’s, predictive maintenance, calibrations, routine inspections, projects
  • Attend breakdown repairs
  • Complete refurbishment, installation, improvements or modifications to the plant or services
  • Work safely and conscientiously
  • Strive towards continuous improvement of all machinery and equipment


  • Good electrical or mechanical aptitude demonstrated through school activities or hobby interests
  • Be confident, positive and willing to learn
  • A minimum of 4 GCSE’s, or equivalent, at Grade A* to C including English, Maths
  • The ability to work as a team member and possess good interpersonal, communication and literacy skills
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about a career in engineering
