Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager or appointed deputy and act as a single point of referral for engineering related production plant needs and escalate if there is need to


  • To attend the daily OEE and performance meetings and provide a 15-minute handover before and at the end of your shift
  • Issuing Permits to work
  • Control of contractors
  • Submitting request for parts
  • Liaising with Senior Engineering Manager or appointed deputy with regards to work activity, including specifically planned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Working with the other departments to ensure good plant performance
  • Providing communication for engineering activities carried out on shift and


Key Accountabilities



  • Planned maintenance program compliance
  • PM Schedule is maintained, achieved and kept up to date
  • Manufacturing line performance
  • Meantime to failure continuously improved
  • Manufacturing performance in line with or exceeding budget targets
  • Waste levels by manufacturing plant
  • Identification and closure of hazards/near miss incidents
  • Delivers Continuous/PDP Improvement plan
  • Achieve/exceed Individual appraisal targets and personal development goals



  • To work within all necessary EH&S legislation (e.g. LOLER, PUWER, PAT testing, EOW, COSHH, PTW etc.) and to proactively contribute to raising the standards across Speedibake. Additionally, be fully conversant with company safe systems of work, operating within agreed safe working practices in line with statutory and company requirements
  • To manage external contractors issuing work permits where appropriate and ensure contractor control is fully enforced.
  • To comply with good manufacturing practices and the Food Safety Act 1990.
  • To attend and investigate fire/gas alarm activations and faults.
  •  To ensure that all breakdown counter measures that may occur, are aligned to the ‘100-year   fix’ approach.
  • To commit to improving on their basic skills, to achieve the flexibility required to support all best practice maintenance on site
  • Identification of CI opportunities, and the delivery of departmental & site process improvement initiatives
  • Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency and process improvements.
  • People responsibility for direct reports ensuring training requirements, skills development.
  • To take part in feedback to management regarding the feedback to grow program.
  • Proactively manage own time (and others), including prioritization of workload and making sound decisions based on the needs of the business.
  • Provide practical technical knowledge to site teams, including training, coaching, mentoring and guidance as required.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders to maximize quality, customer satisfaction and product stream profitability. This includes a ‘customer facing’ approach with a commitment to communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with all stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Management team to drive the Asset Care Strategy and deliver a step change in preventative maintenance and plant reliability agenda.
  • A totally flexible approach, to be available to cover any shift as part of current or any future rotational cover system. This includes weekend work, cover for shortages on shift etc.
  • Ensure the maintenance teams are deployed as effectively as possible by prioritizing work in conjunction with shift managers and subsequent monitoring of workloads

Experience and Qualifications

Specify academic requirements or equivalency, required years and type(S) of experience and necessary professional licenses or certificates if relevant.  Specify which are essential and which are desired.  Include details of technical skills such as knowledge of a particular type of system

  • HNC/HND/Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering - desirable
  • 10 years post apprenticeship training - essential
  • FMCG experience an added advantage – essential
  • Previous supervisory experience an added advantage – desirable
  • Plant knowledge and customer service approach experience – essential
  • Flexible and adaptable to business demands – essential
  • Willingness to learn, mentor, coach other engineers and apprentices
