We have a really exciting opportunity for a Large Goods Vehicle Apprentice to train both on the job and at college whilst working within our Vehicle Maintenance Unit here at our Allied Bakeries site in Cartwright Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire following a recognised industry-leading LGV Technician Apprentice Scheme.

The Large Goods Vehicle Apprenticeship covers a wide range of activities relating to the up keep of our fleet of commercial vehicles and trailers.  This would include following all site health and safety practices, vehicle preventative maintenance inspection and servicing, MOT preparation and repair.  Also, under skilled supervision, training in the use of hand tools and general garage equipment would be provided.

Most work is carried out in house so there would be other activities within the role that would be beneficial including tail lift maintenance, gas powered fork truck maintenance and small amounts of vehicle body work repairs fabrication and basic welding processes.

Allied Bakeries runs a fleet of its own account large goods vehicles and trailers which require regular maintenance and repair to remain legally compliant, safe and fit for use.  Day to day duties would include a broad spectrum of activities under supervision relating to maintenance and repair of the fleet.  Other activities would include good housekeeping, up keep of paperwork relating maintenance activities and training.

Health and Safety is of upmost importance so the right candidate would be expected to act responsibly with in the workshop environment, use PPE as required and adhere to all site and legal H&S requirements.

The right candidate would need to demonstrate a keen interest in this career path be expected to show a wiliness to learn, be prepared to use equipment/ hand tools, be punctual and attend college as required, attend other courses/ training that the business feels would enhance the role.   Ability to make own travel arrangements to and from college in Ilford is an essentil requirement.
